1. INTRODUCTION
These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the campsitebookings.co.za and campsitebookings.com websites and the booking services provided through the platform.
Campsitebookings is an online marketplace that connects campers looking for camping accommodation with independent campsite owners and operators (“Hosts”).
By accessing the website, creating an account, submitting a booking request, accepting a booking, making or receiving a payment, listing a campsite, or otherwise using the Campsitebookings platform, you agree to comply with these Terms and Conditions.
If you do not agree to these Terms and Conditions, you may not use the website or its booking services.
2. DEFINITIONS
For purposes of these Terms and Conditions:
“Campsitebookings”, “the Company”, “we”, “us” or “our” means CAMPERS GATEWAY(PTY) LTD trading as CAMPSITEBOOKINGS.“Camper”, “Customer”, “you” or “your” means a person using the platform to search for, request or book a campsite.
“Host” means a campsite owner, operator or other person or business authorised to advertise and offer a campsite through Campsitebookings.
“Platform” means the Campsitebookings website, booking system and associated online services.
“Booking Request” means a request submitted by a Camper asking a Host to accept a particular campsite reservation.
“Confirmed Booking” means a Booking Request that has been accepted by the Host through the Campsitebookings booking system and confirmed in accordance with the applicable booking procedure.
“Booking Amount” means the amount payable in respect of a particular booking, including any applicable fees or charges disclosed during the booking process.
“Host Fee” / “Company Fee” means the applicable amount retained by or payable to Campsitebookings for providing the platform services.
“Payfast” means the third-party payment service provider (Payment Gateway) used to facilitate payments through the platform.
3. THE ROLE OF CAMPSITEBOOKINGS
Campsitebookings operates an online marketplace and technology platform.
The Company’s primary role is to provide a platform through which:
- Hosts can advertise available campsites;
- Campers can search for campsites;
- Campers can submit booking requests;
- Hosts can accept or reject booking requests; and
- payments can be facilitated through the applicable Payment Gateway.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, Campsitebookings does not own, operate, manage or administrate the campsite being advertised by a Host.
The Host remains responsible for the campsite and for providing the accommodation, facilities and services described in the listing.
4. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CAMPER, HOST AND CAMPSITEBOOKINGS
A booking made through the platform involves three separate parties:
- the Camper;
- the Host; and
- Campsitebookings.
The Host is responsible for supplying the campsite and related services to the Camper.
Campsitebookings provides the platform and booking facilitation services.
The fact that a booking is made through Campsitebookings does not mean that Campsitebookings owns, operates, manages or administrates the Host’s property.
The Host remains responsible for ensuring that the campsite advertised through the platform is legally available for use as advertised and complies with applicable laws, regulations, licences, permits, safety requirements and other legal obligations.
5. HOST LISTINGS
Hosts may use Campsitebookings to create listings containing information about their campsites.
A Host may provide information including:
- campsite descriptions;
- photographs;
- location;
- prices;
- availability;
- facilities;
- maximum occupancy;
- vehicle requirements;
- electricity availability;
- ablution facilities;
- pet policies;
- check-in and check-out times;
- minimum stay requirements;
- site rules;
- cancellation policies; and
- other relevant information.
The Host is responsible for ensuring that the information contained in its listing is accurate and not misleading.
Campsitebookings rely on information supplied by Hosts and does not undertake to independently verify every statement made by a Host.
6. HOST ELIGIBILITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A Host represents and warrants that the Host has the necessary authority to advertise and offer the campsite through Campsitebookings.
The Host is responsible for:
- having the right to operate or offer the campsite;
- providing accurate listing information;
- maintaining accurate availability;
- honouring accepted bookings;
- maintaining the campsite in a reasonably safe and suitable condition;
- complying with applicable laws and regulations;
- obtaining any licences, permits or approvals required for the campsite;
- complying with applicable health, safety, environmental and fire requirements;
- informing Campers of relevant site rules;
- accurately disclosing additional charges;
- providing the services advertised; and
- dealing honestly and fairly with Campers.
Campsitebookings may suspend or remove a listing where it reasonably believes that a Host has supplied materially inaccurate information, failed to honour bookings, breached applicable requirements or otherwise misused the platform.
7. CAMPSITE INFORMATION
Campsitebookings will make reasonable efforts to provide a useful and reliable platform.
However, campsite descriptions, photographs, facilities, ratings, reviews, maps, prices and other information may have been supplied by Hosts or other third parties.
Campsitebookings does not guarantee that all such information is complete, accurate or current at all times.
Campers should carefully review the listing and Host terms before submitting a Booking Request.
8. THE BOOKING PROCESS
The intended booking process operates generally as follows:
Step 1 – Search
The Camper searches the Campsitebookings platform for a suitable campsite.
Step 2 – Selection
The Camper selects a campsite and enters the required booking information.
Step 3 – Booking Request
Where Host approval is required, the Camper submits a Booking Request to the Host.
Step 4 – Host Decision
The Host may accept or reject the Booking Request.
Step 5 – Confirmation
Only after the Host has accepted the Booking Request, and the Campsitebookings system has confirmed the reservation in accordance with the applicable booking procedure, will the reservation constitute a Confirmed Booking.
Step 6 – Payment
Where payment is required, the Camper will be directed to the applicable payment process.
Step 7 – Booking Fulfilment
The Host is responsible for providing the campsite and services corresponding with the Confirmed Booking.
The exact sequence may vary where Campsitebookings introduces a different booking mechanism for a particular Host or service.
9. A BOOKING REQUEST IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY A CONFIRMED BOOKING
Submitting a Booking Request does not by itself guarantee that a reservation has been secured.
The Host may accept or decline the request.
Until the Host has accepted the Booking Request and the booking has been confirmed through the Campsitebookings system, the Camper should not regard the reservation as final.
Where the platform expressly indicates that a booking is immediately confirmed without Host approval, the applicable booking process displayed on the website will apply.
10. PAYMENT PROCESS
Payments associated with Campsitebookings bookings are processed through Payfast as the Payment Gateway.
Hosts are required to register as vendors with Payfast and satisfy its verification and onboarding requirements to be able to receive payments direct from Payfast.
Where the applicable payment functionality permits split settlement, the payment will be divided between:
- the amount due to the Host; and
- the applicable Campsitebookings Fee or other amount due to the Company.
The intention of this arrangement is that Campsitebookings does not receive and never hold customer booking funds in its own bank account as trust money.
Payment settlement remains subject to the applicable Payfast systems, terms, verification procedures and banking processes.
11. PAYMENT OBLIGATIONS OF CAMPERS
Where payment is required for a Confirmed Booking, the Camper must pay the amount displayed through the applicable payment process.
A booking may be cancelled or not completed if payment is not successfully received within the applicable payment period.
The Company is not responsible for payment failures caused by:
- insufficient funds;
- incorrect payment information;
- bank restrictions;
- payment-provider failures;
- fraud prevention measures;
- card issuer decisions; or
- other circumstances outside the Company’s reasonable control.
12. HOST PAYOUTS
The amount payable to a Host will be calculated in accordance with the commercial terms applicable between the Host and Campsitebookings.
The Company may deduct or retain its agreed Fee, service charge or other applicable amount before settlement to the Host.
Host payouts are subject to:
- Payfast’s processing and settlement procedures;
- Payfast’s vendor fees;
- successful payment;
- applicable verification requirements;
- cancellations and refunds;
- chargebacks;
- payment reversals; and
- any other adjustment permitted under the applicable agreements.
13. CAMPSITEBOOKINGS FEE
Campsitebookings may charge Hosts a Fee for bookings generated through the platform.
The applicable Fee structure will be communicated to Hosts through the Host agreement, registration process or other applicable commercial documentation.
Unless otherwise expressly agreed, the Company may deduct its Fee from the amount processed through the payment gateway.
14. PRICES DISPLAYED TO CAMPERS
Hosts are responsible for providing accurate pricing information.
The price displayed to the Camper should identify the applicable costs and where applicable, charges before the booking is finalised.
Additional charges that are reasonably foreseeable and known at the time of booking should be disclosed before the Camper commits to the transaction.
A Host may not impose undisclosed compulsory charges after a booking has been confirmed, except where such charges arise from circumstances caused by the Camper or where otherwise permitted by law and the applicable booking terms.
15. PRICING ERRORS
Although reasonable care will be taken to ensure that prices are displayed correctly, technical or administrative errors may occasionally occur.
If a material pricing error is identified before a booking is confirmed, Campsitebookings or the Host may correct the price before the booking proceeds.
If an error is discovered after confirmation, the Company will consider the circumstances and applicable legal requirements before taking any action.
Nothing in this clause limits any consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
16. CANCELLATION BY A CAMPER
A Camper may cancel a booking in accordance with the cancellation policy applicable to that booking.
Cancellation terms may differ between Hosts.
The applicable cancellation policy should be displayed to the Camper before the booking is finalised.
Any cancellation charge must be applied consistently with applicable South African law.
In particular, cancellation charges should not be applied in a manner that unlawfully deprives a consumer of rights provided by the Consumer Protection Act.
17. CANCELLATION CHARGES
Where a cancellation charge applies, the amount may depend on:
- how far in advance the cancellation is made;
- the date on which the booking was due to commence;
- the Host’s cancellation policy;
- whether the Host has incurred or will incur costs;
- whether the campsite can reasonably be rebooked; and
- applicable legal requirements.
A cancellation charge should be reasonable in the circumstances.
18. REFUNDS
Where a Camper is entitled to a refund, the refund will be processed through the applicable payment mechanism.
The amount of the refund will depend on:
- the applicable cancellation policy;
- the reason for cancellation;
- the timing of cancellation;
- the amount actually paid;
- any permitted cancellation charge;
- any applicable Campsitebookings service or Fee arrangements; and
- applicable law.
Refunds may take additional time to reflect in the Camper’s account because of payment-provider and banking processing times.
19. CANCELLATION BY A HOST
A Host should not cancel a Confirmed Booking except where reasonably necessary.
Examples may include:
- the campsite becoming unavailable;
- an emergency;
- safety concerns;
- circumstances outside the Host’s reasonable control;
- inaccurate availability information; or
- another legitimate reason that prevents the Host from fulfilling the booking.
Where a Host cancels a Confirmed Booking, Campsitebookings may:
- assist the Camper in finding an alternative campsite;
- facilitate a refund where applicable;
- suspend the Host’s listing;
- require the Host to explain the cancellation;
- apply any agreed Host cancellation consequences; or
- take other reasonable measures.
20. HOST FAILURE TO HONOUR A CONFIRMED BOOKING
If a Host is unable or unwilling to provide the campsite that has been confirmed, the Host must notify Campsitebookings and the Camper as soon as reasonably possible.
The Company may assist the Camper in finding alternative accommodation.
Where an appropriate alternative cannot be arranged, Campsitebookings may facilitate the applicable refund through Payfast.
Repeated failure by a Host to honour Confirmed Bookings may result in suspension or removal from the platform.
21. CAMPER NO-SHOW
If a Camper does not arrive for a Confirmed Booking and has not cancelled the booking in accordance with the applicable cancellation policy, the booking may be classified as a no-show.
The financial consequences of a no-show will be determined by the cancellation and no-show policy applicable to the booking.
22. HOST NO-SHOW
A Host who fails to provide access to a confirmed campsite without a legitimate reason may be regarded as having failed to honour the booking.
Campsitebookings may investigate the matter and may assist the Camper with an alternative booking or refund.
Repeated or serious Host failures may result in suspension or removal from the platform.
23. CHANGES TO BOOKINGS
Requests to change a booking may include:
- changing dates;
- increasing or decreasing the number of campers;
- changing the vehicle;
- changing the selected campsite; or
- adding or removing services.
Changes are subject to availability and Host approval where applicable.
Any additional cost or refund arising from a change will be communicated before the change is finalised.
24. CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT
Campers must comply with the Host’s specified check-in and check-out requirements.
If a Camper expects to arrive outside the advertised check-in period, the Camper should contact the Host in advance.
The Host is not obliged to accommodate an arrival outside the agreed check-in period unless otherwise agreed.
25. HOST RULES
Hosts may establish reasonable rules relating to the use of their campsites.
These may include rules regarding:
- noise;
- pets;
- children;
- fires;
- generators;
- visitors;
- vehicles;
- swimming;
- fishing;
- waste;
- environmental protection;
- security;
- alcohol;
- smoking;
- maximum occupancy; and
- other site-specific matters.
Campers must comply with applicable Host rules.
26. CAMPER CONDUCT
Campers must behave responsibly and respectfully while staying at a campsite.
A Camper must not:
- damage property;
- threaten or abuse a Host or other Camper;
- engage in unlawful activity;
- create unreasonable noise or disturbance;
- deliberately breach campsite rules;
- exceed the permitted occupancy;
- use the campsite for an unauthorised purpose; or
- interfere with other guests’ enjoyment of the property.
A serious breach may result in the booking being terminated by the Host, subject to applicable law.
27. DAMAGE TO HOST PROPERTY
A Camper is responsible for damage caused by the Camper, members of the Camper’s group, guests, vehicles or pets, subject to applicable law.
The Host may seek compensation directly from the responsible person.
Campsitebookings may assist with communication between the parties but does not automatically assume responsibility for damage caused by a Camper.
28. PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Campers remain responsible for their own vehicles, camping equipment, valuables and personal belongings.
Campsitebookings is not responsible for theft, loss or damage to personal property except where liability is imposed on the Company by applicable law.
29. SAFETY AND OUTDOOR RISKS
Campers acknowledge that camping and outdoor activities involve inherent risks.
These may include, among other things:
- fire;
- weather;
- flooding;
- wildlife;
- insects;
- uneven ground;
- water;
- recreational activities;
- vehicle movements;
- falling objects;
- personal injury; and
- damage or loss of property.
Campers should exercise reasonable caution and comply with all safety instructions issued by the Host.
30. INSURANCE
Campers are responsible for deciding whether insurance is appropriate for their circumstances.
Campsitebookings does not provide financial or insurance advice as part of the campsite booking service.
Campers should consider appropriate protection for matters such as:
- cancellation;
- personal injury;
- medical expenses;
- vehicle damage;
- theft;
- loss of equipment; and
- other risks associated with camping.
31. COMPLAINTS AND DISPUTES BETWEEN CAMPER AND HOST
Where a dispute arises between a Camper and Host, the parties should first attempt to resolve the matter directly.
Campsitebookings may assist with communication and may facilitate an informal resolution where appropriate.
However, Campsitebookings is not automatically a party to every dispute between a Camper and Host merely because the booking was made through the platform.
Nothing in this clause prevents a consumer from exercising any rights available under applicable South African law.
32. CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS TO CAMPSITEBOOKINGS
Complaints concerning a booking should be submitted as soon as reasonably possible.
Where the complaint concerns a problem during a stay, the Camper should notify the Host immediately and also contact Campsitebookings where assistance is required.
Prompt notification provides a greater opportunity to investigate and resolve the matter.
33. LIMITATION OF CAMPSITEBOOKINGS’ ROLE
Campsitebookings does not guarantee:
- the quality of a Host’s campsite;
- the accuracy of every Host statement;
- the condition of a campsite;
- the suitability of a campsite for a Camper’s particular requirements;
- the safety of every activity offered by a Host;
- the conduct of a Host or Camper;
- uninterrupted availability of a campsite; or
- the continued operation of any particular Host.
The Company will nevertheless comply with obligations imposed upon it by applicable law.
34. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Campsitebookings will not be liable for loss arising solely from:
- the acts or omissions of an independent Host;
- inaccurate information supplied by a Host;
- damage or injury occurring at a Host’s premises;
- theft or loss of personal property;
- failure by a Host to provide a service;
- weather or other natural events;
- events outside the Company’s reasonable control;
- third-party payment system failures;
- telecommunications failures;
- internet outages; or
- unauthorised access to third-party systems.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes liability which cannot legally be excluded.
35. EVENTS OUTSIDE OUR CONTROL

- pandemics or similar events; or
- other circumstances that could not reasonably have been prevented.
36. WEBSITE CONTENT AND HOST REVIEWS

The Company may moderate, edit or remove reviews that are:
- fraudulent;

- defamatory;
- abusive;
- irrelevant;
- discriminatory;
- misleading;
- commercially manipulated; or
- otherwise inconsistent with the purpose of the review system.
37. USER-GENERATED CONTENT
If you submit photographs, reviews, comments or other material to Campsitebookings, you confirm that you have the right to submit that material.
